The importance of incorporating good environmental practices into the planning and execution of construction projects
is now widely recognized.
It is particularly important in the context of marine and coastal projects, where failures can be catastrophic and immediate and where clean up practices may be relatively ineffective,
due to rapid dispersal of pollutants through
the water column. |
CMS is committed to best environmental practices
in its own activities and offers to third parties
a full range of services from:
Environmental Impact Assessment
& Marine Construction Surveys: We have considerable experience of environmental survey work and data collection including water column sampling, estuarine sediment load sampling, sediment sampling, current analysis and bathymetric surveying to provide data for the production of Marine based EIA’s or to provide information for the design and construction of Marine structures.
Through partnerships with geotechnical, hydrological
and biological resources, we can provide data collection services tailored to the precise requirements of almost any project. With our bathymetric database and experience we can also assist in the planning and management of data collection.

Environmental Monitoring and Inspections: Every contractor should
have its own capability to monitor on-site practices to anticipate and avoid environmental problems.
With our extensive, practical knowledge of the potential pitfalls of coastal construction works, we can save time and money by highlighting potential problems before they escalate and cause significant environmental damage or slow down progress on site.
Pollution Control and Clean Up Operations: Advice and management of clean-up operations, should there be a pollution or similar environmental issue.
Equipment: Survey Vessels - We can supply professionally crewed
vessels as a platform for the deployment of any survey equipment
and data collection apparatus both inshore and offshore.
Experienced and competent crew makes data collection simpler, safer
and more cost effective. We use Hypack software on board for our bathymetric surveying and this hardware and software can also be
used for logging side scan sonar data. |
Dive Team: We have two experienced commercial divers on staff and a considerable number of experienced contract divers are readily available. We can support extended dive operations, both scuba and surface supply, as required.
Qualifications: CMS’s own staff have substantial practical experience of environmental management, backed by degrees in oceanography and marine biology. Through their network of contacts to professionals in the environmental field, CMS can provide an appropriate team to advise on any specific coastal or marine environmental issue.
Clients: The present management of CMS was responsible
for developing and managing environmental best practices
on the Discovery Hotel project and the related super-yacht marina development in Marigot Bay. A challenging environment, given the steep and congested site and the sensitivity of operating in Marigot Bay, an area of outstanding natural beauty and extensive mangrove reserves. |
