CMS has recently invested in
a state of the art bathymetric survey system, primarily to perform very accurate
pre and post dredge surveys.
However, the scope of work that can be carried out by the equipment
far exceeds this function.
The equipment setup and survey plan can be tailored
to the specific needs of the client, to produce data in formats that are be vital to the correct planning and monitoring of many different projects. |
Bathymetric maps can be used for:
- Planning and directing underwater works
i.e. scientific monitoring and data collection,
piling, dredging and salvage operations.
- To create a platform to design surface water run off schemes, sea defences and all manner of marine construction.
- To allow long and short term monitoring of changes
in bathymetry as a result of construction works,
boat traffic, natural sedimentation, storm surges
and swell events etc.
- To locate, quantify and recover sand lost during storm events to allow beach re-nourishment.
- Production of Marine Environmental Impact Assessments
- Identification and monitoring of underwater cable
and pipeline routes

Single narrow beam transducers are used
to identify and map important features with
a small lateral scale where considerable accuracy is required, such as narrow
channels and confined spaces such as Marinas.
Dual Beam transducers can be used to identify areas of deep silt and approximate depth of
silt in confined bays giving a good indication
of potential costs and options for dredging.
SBAS enabled DGPS antennae produces
a standard spatial accuracy of between 0.5
and 1m using WAAS corrections and for projects where greater accuracy is required,
we have the capability to create our own reference station and achieve a position accuracy of +/- 200mm.
The data is meshed with real time tidal information and if necessary pitch and roll data from a variety of sensors on the shore and survey vessel to produce pinpoint accurate depth information. |

Data can be presented in a multitude of ways –
as raw XY data, DXF 2 and 3D contours, sections, profiles
and 3 dimensional maps. Even animated 3D fly throughs
can be created, depending on the customers requirements.
Contour maps can be overlaid on digital charts,
or incorporated into existing 2 or 3D CAD drawings.
Our advanced software can even make
real time corrections to digital charts.
Data collection equipment is completely portable,
allowing us to offer this service regionally
as well as throughout St Lucian waters.
Our skill base including experienced Marine consultants, Oceanographers and CAD technicians, allows us to plan
and tailor data collection methodology and produce results
in almost any format to best meet your projects requirements. |
